?SALISBURY – Three days after a bond reduction hearing, former Catawba College soccer coach Ralph Wager was released from jail.
Wager posted a $400,000 bond about 4:30 p.m. Thursday. The 69-year-old coach was arrested in July on six counts of felony sex offenses after authorities said he molested at least one boy on Catawba College’s campus in the late 1980s.
At a hearing Monday, Wager’s attorney, Darrin Jordan, argued that his client’s $1 million bond wasn’t appropriate.
Superior Court Judge W. David Lee, of Union County, reduced the bond, but required Wager to wear an electronic monitor that restricts him to within 50 yards of his Charlotte home.
Prosecutors said in the hearing that new evidence showed Wager was accused of molesting two other boys while on campus from 1987 to 1990.
The final accusation, from an employee’s son, led to Wager’s termination, Assistant District Attorney Seth Banks said.
Wager remains suspended indefinitely from coaching soccer. Since moving to Charlotte, he started a soccer program in the Steele Creek community where he lives.
