FAITH – A Rainey Road woman told deputies she was robbed by a man claiming to be a state employee last week.
The 63-year-old said a man wearing an orange vest knocked on her door Thursday about 4 p.m., a Rowan County Sheriff’s Office report said.
He told the woman to “move her vehicle because they were getting ready to pave the road,” the report said.
The resident told officers the suspect was driving a small white vehicle with a “round yellowish emblem on the doors.”
The man was described as a white male with reddish-blond hair.
The resident placed her purse in the home, authorities said, and moved her vehicle.
After the man left, she went inside and found a white envelope containing $5,000 in cash was missing.
Authorities said the only thing missing from the house was the envelope. The woman’s wallet, which was also in the purse, was not touched.
The woman told officers she withdrew the cash from the bank to “complete some home repairs,” the report said.
