MOUNT ULLA – A 19-year-old is accused of stealing nearly $100,000 in automotive parts from a residence on U.S. 801 earlier this week.
Michael Arnold Hegdahl, of French Belk Road, was charged with felony larceny. He was still in jail Thursday under a $1,000 bond.
Authorities began investigating the theft Monday after the property owner contacted Rowan deputies. An arrest report said motor parts, 15 radiators, 30 hydraulic pumps and several other items were stolen.
The property owner told officers he located some of the items at T.H. Davis, a scrap metal business, on Sherrills Ford Road. The property, deputies found, was sold by Hegdahl, an arrest report said.
After checking with other officers, investigators learned another Rowan deputy had stopped Hegdahl on nearby Edminston Road about 12:40 a.m. the night before. The 19-year-old told the deputy he was looking for a friend on French Belk Road and was released.
On Wednesday, Hegdahl was arrested, the report said.
He was scheduled for a first appearance in court Thursday morning.
