SALISBURY – Rowan deputies said a Celestial Drive man attempted to set his home on fire during a fight with his wife.
Christopher Eugene Ball, 43, was arrested about 8:15 p.m. Tuesday after authorities said he ran from officers.
The Rowan County Sheriff’s Office said deputies were initially called to the Celestial Drive home. Officers said they were told Ball had fled into a nearby wooded area. A police dog was brought to the scene and authorities located Ball at a home on Mendenhall Drive.
Deputies said Ball ran again but was caught in a neighbor’s yard. He was forced to the ground, officers said, and handcuffed. Authorities said they found illegal prescription pills in his possession.
The report did not indicate how Ball allegedly attempted to burn the home.
Ball was charged with felony assault by strangulation; possession of a controlled substance; trafficking heroin, assault on a female; and resisting, obstructing or delaying an officer.
Because of the domestic charge, Ball was given no bond and remained in jail Wednesday.
