HIGH POINT (AP) — A High Point man has been shot to death by police who say he approached them with a knife.
Officers were called to an apartment building in High Point early Thursday by someone who reported a ;woman had been stabbed.
Police Chief Marty Sumner says officers confronted the suspect, who ignored their orders to drop the knife. Sumner says the man moved toward the officers and two of them fired.
David Danny Ferguson died from the gunshot wounds.
The officers were not hurt. The woman’s injuries were described as non-life threatening.
Police had not determined the relationship between Ferguson and the stabbing victim.
The State Bureau of Investigation is looking into the shooting. The names of the two officers involved were not released. They are on administrative leave.
