Shive Elementary School hosted the inaugural Shive Shuffle 5K on Saturday morning.
A light rain persisted for much of the morning but only served to cool the participants as they covered the 3.1 mile course.
Hunter Kimball won in 19 minutes and 42 seconds. In a close battle, Silas Moorefield was second in 21:43 and Coby Weant finished third in 21:47.
The women’s winner was Melissa Orr in 22 minutes and 7 seconds. Second was Katherine Ballou in 25:13, followed in third by Susan Giessler in 25:33. Peyton Roberts won the half-mile fun run in 3 minutes and 38 seconds. Second was Nathan Hayworth in 4:04 and third was Chaluer McMurray in 4:17.
Proceeds will benefit the Killer Beez Shive Fitness Club. Race director April Spry said, “We enjoyed having our first race. Thanks to all the volunteers and all the participants who came out today. We are already looking forward to next year.”
Primary sponsors for the event are Crossroads AUTOBODY, Desco, Inc, F&M Bank, Miller C&D Recycling, East Rowan YMCA, Lambert’s Welding and Machine, R&T Distributors, and Sifford’s.
