SALISBURY — Rowan County Sheriff’s detectives arrested a Concord man accused of luring a 14-year-old girl to meet him after corresponding in an online chatroom earlier this year.
Joseph Adam Layton, 30, was taken into custody Tuesday at his apartment on Crystalwood Court in Concord.
He was charged with four counts of felony indecent liberties with children and four counts of felony statutory rape or sex offense.
The Rowan County Sheriff’s Office said Layton first met the girl online in May.
Layton posed as an 18-year-old during the exchange, investigators said.
The two later met at a location in Concord, deputies said.
In June, Layton took the girl to a hotel in Salisbury, where “several criminal offenses occurred,” arrest reports said.
Layton remained in Rowan County jail Wednesday under a $400,000 bond.
Deputies have sent copies of their investigation to Concord Police with allegations of offenses that occurred in Cabarrus County, the report said.
Those charges are pending.
