A fight during a Tuesday night card game on Rainey Road led to the arrest of two people.
The Rowan County Sheriff’s Office charged Ronald Glenn Brinson Jr., 30, with assault on a female and Joshua Adam Abbott, 27, with assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury.
The incident occurred at Abbott’s home at 1690 Rainey Road, where a group of people were “drinking and playing cards,” said Sheriff’s Capt. John Sifford.
Ronald Brinson and Alisha Brinson, 26, got into an argument, and Alisha Brinson was knocked to the ground and punched, a report said.
Abbott exchanged punches with Ronald Brinson, who went to his parents’ nearby home at 1680 Rainey Road and returned with a baseball bat.
Reports said he began hitting Abbott’s car with the bat. Abbott, who was armed with his own bat, hit Ronald Brinson with the bat. Ronald Brinson fell to the ground and, according to reports and witnesses, Abbott continued punching the man.
Ronald Brinson was taken by EMS to Rowan Regional Medical Center with injuries to his head. Sifford said he may have a broken jaw.
Abbott remains in the Rowan County Detention Center under a $7,500 secured bond.
