North Rowan’s jayvee football team beat West Montgomery 18-7 on Thursday in Mt. Gilead.
Ty Corpening rushed for 143 yards on 18 carries and scored three TDs to lead the Cavaliers.
Brandon Castillo, Miles Bailey, Robbie Monroe and Nick Leverett led the blocking.
Dillon Riley, Omar Lipscomb, Jim Herndon, Zeth Robinson and Malik McGee led the defense. Michael Streeter had an interception.
• R.J. Fowler scored three TDs in A.L. Brown’s 48-0 romp against Northwest Cabarrus.
The Wonders (7-2, 7-0 SPC) scored twice on passes from Damon Johnson to Brylan Weaks. Tyren Washington and Sandon McCoy scored TDs. McCoy also led the defense with nine tackles.
• Salisbury beat Thomasville 21-6 for the 32nd CCC win a row for the Hornet jayvees. Salisbury (8-1) trailed 6-0 at halftime after Thomasville returned a fumble for a score.
Daeshaude White got Salisbury on the board with a 45-yard run early in the third quarter. Salisbury also got TD runs from Willie Clark (28 yards) and Antwon Glenn (2 yards).
Matt Woolly kicked three PATs.
Erik Murray had two interceptions. Darius Jackson picked off a pass. D.J. Alexander was a defensive standout.
Cameron McLendon and Ji Stiller led the blocking.
•West Rowan won 28-6 against Carson after weathering a rain delay and a lightning delay. West went 5-0 in county games this season.
Kreshon Alexander had two rushing TDs for West. Amos Duncan had a rushing TD, and Clint Euchner caught a 50-yard scoring pass from Lee Poteat.
Daniel Flanagan rushed for a pair of two-point conversions for the Falcons (7-2).
Dearius Phillips, Noah Williams, Derrick Moreland and Justin Evans stood out defensively.
Marshall Ball, Denny Triche, Shane Barber, Cody Stewart and Caleb Epps led the blocking.
• Statesville’s jayvees beat East Rowan 42-0.
Prep golf
Salisbury golfers will tee off in the 1A/2A Central Regional tournament in Pilot Mountain on Monday.
Isabella Rusher will start things off for the Hornets at 9 a.m.
Prep soccer
Salisbury’s CCC soccer match with West Davidson was postponed until Tuesday by weather concerns.
Prep tennis
Individual tennis regionals are scheduled to start today in all classifications.
Prep volleyball
Carson plays host to Weddington on Saturday at 4 p.m. in the first round of the 3A playoffs.
• Salisbury will play at North Surry in the first round of the 2A playoffs.
Prep bowling
All Rowan County high school boys and girls are invited to try out for our teams for a league at Woodleaf Lanes.
Tryout is Oct. 22 at 4:30 p.m.
Former high school bowlers Drake Burlingham and Brittany Milby received scholarships through the high school bowling program.
Prep cross country
North Rowan’s boys finished fifth in the YVC Meet in Albemarle.
Brandon Nelson was the top runner for the Cavaliers. He was 13th in 21:08.
• North’s girls didn’t post a team score. Michaela Lemmon was the top individual. She was 22nd (26:48).
Middle school tennis
Salisbury’s Academy’s girls tennis team finished off a second straight undefeated season by beating Summit School 7-2.
Maria Capito, Juliana Anderson, Ivy Overcash and Jordan McCall won in singles for the Jaguars.
Capito-Annabel Barr, Overcash-Anderson and Samantha Pritchard-McCall swept singles.
• Southeast’s girls beat Mooresville 7-2. Singles winners included Brienne Leach, Keelee Morgan, Lindsay Elmore, Tabitha Landy and Abby Johnson.
Doubles winners were Koontz-Leach and Morgan-Elmore.
8th-grade football
North Rowan Middle beat Mooresville 36-0.
Joseph Scott scored four touchdowns on runs of 65, 15, 8 and 6 yards.
Malik Alford scored on a 1-yard run and also ran for three two-point conversions
Leading the blocking for the Mavericks were Steven Thurston, Spencer Bowler, Terry Cathcart, Taelor Davis and Dominic Corradetti.
Corbin Smith connected on passes to Scott and Zion Debose for 85 yards.
Defensive standouts for the Mavericks were Bowler, Thurston, Debose and Javin Goodine. North North (6-0) is at West Rowan Middle next.
College volleyball
Livingstone’s Phylicia Egbuna has been named CIAA Volleyball Rookie of the Week for the second time this season.
Egbuna had 37 kills, three service aces and 20 digs as the Blue Bears went 2-0 last week.
Livingstone is home against J.C. Smith on Monday night.
College women’s basketball
In the preseason All-SAC team released on Thursday, Catawba’s Chloe Bully is on the first team.
College swimming
East Carolina will be at Catawba for a tri-meet that also will include Limestone at 5 p.m. on Oct. 26.
Local golf
The Corbin Hills Fall 2-Man Tournament will be held on Oct. 27-28.
The format is Texas Scramble.
The entry fee is $75 per player for non-members and $50 for members.
Entry fee includes two days of golf, prizes and post play meal. Teams will be flighted after Saturday’s round during the cookout. Entry does not include the optional daily team skins game and team buy-in for Sunday.

• Keith Dorsett won the Corbin Hills Men’s Club Championship.
Dorsett won the Championship Flight with rounds of 64-69-69 – 202. Runner-up at 71-72-76 – 229 was Tim Collins.
First Flight winner was Kevin Lentz at 74-82-73 – 229. Runner-up was Curt Thomas at 78-76-75 – 229.
Second Flight winner in a scorecard playoff was Randy Daugherty with rounds of 77-80-73 – 230. Runner-up was Michael Dorsett, who had rounds of 74-83-73 – 230.
Chuck Valley won the Third Flight with rounds of 82-82-77 – 241, Runner-up was Perry Voncanon with rounds of 82-83-79 – 244.
•After three rounds of the First Stage PGA Q-School qualifier at the The Club at Irish Creek, Gastonia’s Harold Varner leads with rounds of 73-65-64 – 202. He’s 11-under and holds a one-shot lead.
Frank Adams has shot rounds of 76-75-67 – 218 and is tied for 58th at 218. Will Collins has shot 75-73-74 – 222 and is tied for 70th.
Hoops fundraiser
Support the Salisbury Hornets boys basketball team Saturday at Wal-Mart.
Basketball goals will be set up and the team will sponsor a free-throw shooting contest.
Krispy Kreme doughnuts cards will be sold.
Parks and Rec
Salisbury Parks and Recreation is taking registration at Hall Gym for its Youth Basketball league for boys, ages 7-15, through Oct. 26.
Cost of the league is $35. Practices will begin in November, with games starting in December.

City tennnis tournaments
Dates for the city of Salisbury Junior Tennis Championships are Dec. 7-9.
There are boys and girls singles divisions for ages 10, 12, 14, 16 and 18 and boys and girls doubles divisions for 12, 14, 16 and 18.
The entry fee for singles is $25. The entry fee for doubles is $12 per person.
The entry deadline is Dec. 3.
