KANNAPOLIS — Former Rowan deputy Brian Long will spend at least the next 24 hours in jail after he was arrested during a traffic stop just before midnight Saturday.
A former girlfriend filed a misdemeanor stalking charge against Long on Oct. 17. An arrest report said Long continued to call and text her after the relationship ended on Oct. 10.
Long was suspended with pay the same day, but the 33-year-old did not turn himself in on the charge.
In a letter mailed Friday, the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office said they informed Long “his services were no longer needed as an employee, and requesting that all issued equipment be returned to the Sheriff’s Office,”a press release said.
Long was stopped near Walmart by Kannapolis Police Saturday night. He remains in Cabarrus County jail under no bond.
Long had been with the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office since Jan. 2011.
