SALISBURY – A Salisbury man ended up in the hospital after a portion of his lower ear was bitten off during a robbery Wednesday night.
Salisbury Police Capt. Sheila Lingle said a 24-year-old was walking with his friend, an 18-year-old about 10:30 p.m. on Craige Street toward West Horah Street when they noticed a group of men acting out near Livingstone College.
Lingle said the men intentionally walked around to avoid them, but the group of between eight and 10 young men began to run toward them, eventually catching up with them at Caldwell and Thomas streets. The 18-year-old, who was pushed to the ground, had $70 and his cell phone taken from him.
The men stole $140 from the 24-year-old, who was punched in the face before one of the men bit off a chunk of his ear. He was treated and released from Rowan Regional Medical Center.
Lingle said the thieves, which were all young males, were wearing blue and black bandanas.
