SALISBURY — For the third time in a month, authorities said, robbers targeted a Wells Fargo ATM on West Innes Street Thursday night.

A Salisbury Police report said two men armed with a rifle approached a 22-year-old customer about 11:45 p.m.

After finishing his transaction, the man told officers he was heading back to his Honda Civic when the men came from the front of the business.

He was aware of prior robberies, and he had left his Honda running with the driver’s side door ajar, police said.

When one of the armed men attempted to stop him as he got into the driver’s seat, the report said, the gunman shattered the driver’s side window with the butt of the gun while the other suspect tried to get into the passenger’s side door.

But the second robber couldn’t open the locked door, officers said, and shouted at the gunman to let him in to grab the money.

The customer was able to get away in the Honda and nothing was reported taken. The 22-year-old went to a nearby service station and called the police.

Officers said both men have been described as black men in their late teens to early 20s.

One was wearing a gray hoodie sweatshirt, police said, and they were last scene running across West Innes Street toward a nearby laundry mat.

Two teenagers were arrested Wednesday night after authorities said they tried to rob a man at the ATM about 5 p.m.

Police said one of the men pulled a pistol from his waistband and demanded money. The customer was able to get bank employees attention and the teen fled to an awaiting car.

The driver, Dajion Daryl Brathwaite, 19, and Akin Kemon Robinson, 18, of Rockwell, were charged with felony attempted robbery with a dangerous weapon.

A similar robbery happened at the ATM in mid-November, police said.
