GRANITE QUARRY — The Rowan County congressional office of U.S. Rep. Howard Coblepermanently closed its doors on Friday after 12 years of service.
Thanks to congressional redistricting by the North Carolina legislature, Congressman Coble’s district was moved northward and out of Rowan County completely.
“For the past 12 years, it has been my honor to represent Rowan County along with Congressman Mel Watt,”Coble said in a press release Thursday. “I have made many friends who reside in the 6th District portion of Rowan. I hope they feel that I have fairly and honestly represented their views in Washington. I am extremely proud of the constituent service we provided to the citizens of Rowan, thanks particularly to the outstanding work of our district representative Terri Welch.”
Coble maintained a full-time office in Granite Quarry during the past 12 years, and the one and only staffer who worked in that office was Terri Welch.
“I want to thank everyone who contacted our office over the years,” Welch said in the press release. “I enjoyed providing help to those who had issues in dealing with the federal government and being Congressman Coble’s representative here in Rowan County. I am sure that Representatives Mel Watt, Virginia Foxx and Richard Hudson will serve Rowan County well.”
Coble’s full-time office in Randolph County will be taken over by U.S. Rep. Renee Ellmers in the 113th Congress. His three other full-time offices in Greensboro, High Point and Graham will remain. There will be a further announcement in the near future on other offices for Coble.
