SALISBURY — Police charged a convicted felon with having cocaine in his pocket and a handgun under his seat during a traffic stop Wednesday night.
Authorities said 25-year-old Nicholas Dontae Burts, of Gallimore Road, was taken into custody after officers found powder cocaine and a small amount of marijuana on his person.
Under the driver’s seat, Salisbury Police officers reported they also found a handgun, which Burts admitted was his, an initial report said.
Burts was placed in Rowan County jail under a $20,000 bond. A first appearance in court was scheduled for Thursday morning.
According to the Department of Corrections, Burts was released from prison in February 2011 after serving about 18 months for assault inflicting serious injury to an law enforcement officer.
