LUMBERTON (AP) — The Parent-Teacher Association is raising money to improve security at a Lumberton elementary school.
The PTA at Tanglewood Elementary School is working to raise $5,000 for additional security measures.
PTA president Angie Bono-Severy says the school is located across from a hospital emergency room and has increased exposure to people who could pose a risk to children.
Bono-Severy says most of the doors to the school are locked during the day.
She says the school does not have a resource officer, though Lumberton police periodically drop by during patrols.
She says the school wants to add an intercom system at the front entrance for visitors, a keypad at the rear entrance for staff members and security cameras around the property.
