GOLD HILL — Authorities have charged two Gold Hill men with taking items from vehicles in eastern Rowan County and from several campers in and around High Rock Lake.
The Rowan County Sheriff’s Office charged Keith Rattz Jr., 20, and Bryce Honeycutt, 23, both of 610 St. Peters Church Road, with the following:
Rattz — 10 counts felony breaking and entering a motor vehicle, five counts misdemeanor larceny, five counts felony larceny after breaking and entering, four counts felony breaking and entering and two counts felony larceny of a firearm.
Bryce — six counts misdemeanor larceny, nine counts felony breaking and entering into a motor vehicle, four counts felony larceny after breaking and entering, five counts felony breaking and entering and two counts felony larceny of a firearm.
Investigators began looking into break-ins at St. Peters Church Road, Gold Hill, and Gin and Zion Church roads in Rockwell, a statement said.
The vehicle break-ins occurred within the last few weeks, but several recreational campers were broken into near High Rock Lake in early January.
On Friday, investigators searched and recovered some of the stolen items inside Rattz and Honeycutt’s Gold Hill home.
During the search of the Gold Hill home, investigators recovered stolen property from these areas to include a boat motor, GPS device and two stolen class rings. One of those rings has already been returned to the owner. Detectives recovered other items they believe are stolen and are working to locate the owners of the property.
Both remain in the Rowan County Detention Center, each under a $10,000 secured bond.
