SALISBURY — A Salisbury man with a penchant for pizza has been charged with using his father’s credit card without his permission and racking up hundreds of dollars on pizza and other items.
The Rowan County Sheriff’s Office charged Michael Fulcher, 31, with one count of financial card fraud. He was arrested Jan. 26 in Cabarrus County and placed in jail there under a $1,000 secured bond. He has since been released.
Fulcher’s father, Ronnie Fulcher, contacted law enforcement on Sept. 26, saying his Chase credit card had more than $2,000 worth of charges on it that he had not made. He had since canceled the card and contacted his bank, said Capt. John Sifford.
The bank noted several unusual purchases. Ronnie Fulcher told investigators he’d let his son, Michael, use the card to get back on his feet. Michael Fulcher had been staying at Super 8 with his girlfriend, a report said.
In October when authorities spoke with Michael Fulcher, he gave investigators names of people he thought could possibly have used the card, which officials later said was not true.
Ronnie Fulcher told investigators his son “had a drug problem,” and didn’t rule out Michael as the one who made the purchases, the report said.
There were multiple purchases made at Walmart, one for $772 and two others at the same store for more than $300. The report showed $50 was spent at Papa John’s Pizza, $36 at Domino’s Pizza, and on two separate occasions $33 and $45 at America’s Pizza LLC. The nearest Americas Pizza LLC is in Charlotte. In mid-September the card was used at Christo’s Family Restaurant where the bill totaled more than $115, a report said.
Fulcher is scheduled to appear in court in March.
Another man, Timothy Joe Grubb, 31, of Bonanza Drive, Salisbury, was also charged with using Ronnie Fulcher’s card.
Grubb was charged with obtaining property by false pretenses. He told authorities Michael Fulcher said he could use the card. Grubb bought a television from Walmart. Grubb was arrested in October at that time issued a $1,500 secured bond. He has since been released. Grubb is expected to appear in district court later this month.
