Joshua Franklin Smith, 18, received his Eagle Scout award Sunday, Feb. 3, 2013, at First United Methodist Church of Salisbury. His Scoutmaster, David B. Wilson, made the presentation.
As a Cub Scout, Joshua earned the Cub Scouts highest award, the Arrow of Light. As a Boy Scout in Troop 442, Joshua earned 32 merit badges. He served as a Troop Guide and as a Den Chief. Joshua completed a backpacking trek at Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico in 2010.
Along with other members of Troop 442, he participated in North Carolina’s Big Sweep project for several years, cleaning trash from the Yadkin River. He has earned the Conservation Good Turn, Philmont Arrowhead, two 50-Miler (for backpacking and canoeing) and Philmont’s Duty to God awards.
For his Eagle Scout leadership service project, Joshua planned and led a team of scouts and other volunteers in planting trees and improving the landscaping in front of First United Methodist Church.
A junior at Carson High School, Joshua is in the Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps. An active member of First United Methodist Church of Salisbury, he has served as an acolyte.
Joshua is the son of Tammy Livengood and grandson of George and Sarah Hill.
