Law enforcement charged an inmate after he tossed urine and pieces of battery onto a Rowan County Detention Center officer. Tracy Dayqwain Bost, 21, of Mahaley Avenue, was in the county jail, being held for a court appearance from the North Carolina Department of Correction, Polk facility.
The Rowan detention officer, C.J. Prince, was not significantly injured, said Capt. John Sifford.
The Rowan County Sheriff’s Office charged Bost on Monday with possession of a dangerous weapon in a prison and malicious conduct by a prisoner. He was returned back to the custody of the Department of Correction.
fficers received information that Bost had a weapon either in his cell or on him. He was searched and a weapon was found. A weapon made from a battery that could’ve been used to injure someone was found, Sifford said.
Sifford said the inmate was placed on lockdown. When the deputy went to retrieve Bost’s meal from a slot in the door, Bost threw the food onto the ground. Bost also tossed a cup with urine and pieces of battery onto the officer. The substance did come into contact with the officer’s skin and his uniform. A video surveillance captured the incident.
When Bost returned from the Department of Correction and upon a criminal investigation by the sheriff’s office, warrants were issued and charges were filed.
“They have had problems with this inmate,” Sifford said.
Earlier this month, Bost flooded his cell and struck an officer.
Bost has previously been convicted of assault, larceny, breaking and entering and traffic infractions.
Bost is no stranger to law enforcement, in February 2012, he led police on a high speed car chase on Interstate 85 and a subsequent short foot chase. Officers stunned Bost with a Taser in that incident as he tried to hide. Officers found several bags of drugs, authorities said were packaged to be sold.
