SALISBURY — A Henderson Independent High School student was taken into police custody Wednesday morning and charged with simple possession of marijuana when she left the school and returned with drugs hidden in her bra.
The Salisbury Police also charged Nancy Landaverde Espinoza, 16, of Forsaken Drive, China Grove, with disorderly conduct and two counts of obstruct, resist, delay an officer.
When Espinoza arrived at school at 8:48 a.m. she set off the metal detectors. She stepped through it again and then walked out of the school. She returned to school sometime later to a classroom, a report said.
Espinoza was taken out of class and the school’s resource officer, Terry Moore, noted she became belligerent. Espinoza began cursing and insulting the officer. Moore tried to arrest her for disorderly conduct, but she resisted being placed in handcuffs. She was eventually handcuffed and searched by a female officer. The officer found five white pills, Tramadol, a pain reliever, inside Espinoza’s underwear. She also had a $5 bill with a small amount of marijuana rolled into it, hidden inside her bra, the report said.
Espinoza was given a $1,500 secured bond and remains in the Rowan County Detention Center.
