A Salisbury Police officer stopped a man riding a mo-ped Wednesday with a helmet not properly placed on his head. The officer pulled over the rider in front of the 1600 block of Standish Street. The officer asked Davis for identification. Davis told the officer he was riding around “burning gas,” a report said.
Mark Anthony Davis Jr., 27, of Dogwood Court, was charged with misdemeanor possession of stolen goods, felony possession of a firearm by a felon, misdemeanor carrying a concealed weapon, felony possession with the intent to manufacture, sell and deliver a controlled substance and misdemeanor simple possession of a controlled substance.
When the license plate was checked, the officer discovered the scooter was stolen. The officer inquired whether Davis had any illegal substances on him. Davis told the officer he had marijuana in his pants pocket. Inside the pockets were pills and baggies of marijuana. Officers found a .22-caliber revolver hidden inside his shorts.
Davis remains in the Rowan County Detention Center under a $10,000 secured bond. Davis is currently on probation for a 2012 conviction for possession of stolen goods and other misdemeanor charges. He was convicted of drug possession and assault on a female.
