Three East Rowan High School students were given citations for having a homemade smoking device at the school. An assistant principal at the school caught the teens with the items on Wednesday.
The Rowan County Sheriff’s Office issued citations for possession of drug paraphernalia to students Jason Dicks, 16, of the 700 block of Crescent Road, Rockwell, and Marcus Devontae Warren, 16, of the 400 block of South Main Street, Granite Quarry. The third student was a 15-year-old male, who is a juvenile.
Assistant Principal Todd Whelan notified the school resource officer to say he had found the students in between mobile classrooms at the school. Whelan said he did smell marijuana and saw a lighter and aluminum foil wrapped around a pen cap that contained marijuana residue on the end. The resource officer searched one of the student’s book bags and found a plastic hollow pen. One end had been melted and the other end had paper stuffed inside.
