A Kannapolis man struck by a vehicle while riding a horse Sunday afternoon remains in the hospital but is in good condition, officials said.
Justin Webb, 26, of Running Brook Drive, was riding the horse with his wife, Kim, and their two children along Old Beatty Ford Road near Lentz Road when he was hit. Kim Webb told a Post reporter something spooked the horses and Webb’s horse ran into the middle of the road, into the path of an approaching pickup.
The pickup was driven by Raney Troutman, 87, of Landis, who suffered minor injuries.
N.C. Highway Patrol Trooper A.J. Carpenter said Webb was unable to gain control and Troutman was not able to stop in time to avoid a collision. The horse, Titan, died at the scene.
Webb was flown to Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte. Troutman was taken to Carolinas Medical Center-NorthEast in Concord where he was treated and released. No charges were filed.
