Convicted felon charged with possession of cocaine, heroin

In a joint operation, the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office, Rowan County Probation and Parole, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms and Explosives and the Salisbury Police, served a number of search warrants at homes. One of those homes yielded an arrest and the seizure of drugs and a handgun.
Officials charged Kenneth Dwight Carpenter, 29, of the 300 block of Barbour Street, with possession of a weapon by a felon, two counts of possession with the intent to manufacture, sell and deliver a controlled schedule II substance and possession with the intent to manufacture, sell and deliver a controlled schedule I substance.
Authorities seized the following from Carpenter’s home: 19 grams of crack cocaine, 1 gram of heroin, one handgun and a half gram of powder cocaine. Investigators went to Carpenter’s Barbour Street home on Monday at 6:30 p.m. Carpenter is also known as Kenneth Dwayne Carpenter. Carpenter remains in the Rowan County Detention Center under a $100,000 secured bond. Investigators say he was on parole and is in violation of his parole. See Wednesday’s Post for more details.
