The North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics graduated its 32nd class May 25 on the School’s historic Durham campus.
Dr. Dan Ariely, James B. Duke Professor of psychology and behavioral economics at Duke University, gave this year’s keynote address before the more than 3,000 guests. He is considered one of the leading behavioral economists, and has appeared on both National Public Radio (NPR) and TED talks. Ariely is the author of the New York Times bestsellers “Predictably Irrational,” “The Upside of Irrationality” and “The Honest Truth About Dishonesty.”
The class of 2013 received national awards and recognition in academic competition such as the Conrad Spirit of Innovation, Intel Science Talent Search, Siemens Competition and the National Science Bowl. Among its ranks, the class of 2013 has four Park Scholars at N.C. State University and two Morehead-Cain Scholars at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. More than 60 percent are planning to attend a university of North Carolina. Other graduates plan to attend leading colleges and universities across the country, including Duke University.
