A homeowner scared away two men he believed tried to rob him after they entered his home through an unlocked door.
The incident occurred about 12:20 a.m. Tuesday in the 100 block of West Steele Street. The victim, Mitchell Wood, told Salisbury Police investigators he left a side door unlocked for his brother. He later heard a noise and he found two masked men in the house.
The men had bandanas over the lower half of their faces and one of them was armed with a shotgun. Wood ducked into a bedroom and yelled out to the men that he “had something for them,” a report said.
The two men ran from the home, officials said.
Salisbury Police are trying to determine if the home invasion was connected to a foot chase in East Spencer that occurred around the same time. However, East Spencer Police Chief Darren Westmoreland hasn’t drawn the same conclusion.
East Spencer Police are looking for three suspects who were involved in an incident in the 200 block of Grant Street, about three miles from West Steele Street home invasion.
East Spencer Police responded to a shots fired call around 12:30 a.m. An East Spencer officer heard the shots and was enroute and someone called 911 about the gunshots, Westmoreland said. One suspect jumped from a vehicle and ran from police. A short foot chase ensued, but police were not able to catch the suspect. No arrests have been made in either incident.
