SALISBURY — A 32-year-old woman was taken into custody Tuesday after authorities said she fraudulently signed six of her grandmother’s checks and cashed them.
Natosha Reese, who lives near her grandmother at a home on Old Beatty Ford Road in Rockwell, took the checks while the 73-year-old spent a brief time in the hospital, according to a Rowan County Sheriff’s Office arrest report.
Authorities charged Reese with six counts of obtaining property by false pretense, one for each cashed check. Deputies said the checks totaled nearly $900.
The victim, Barbara Lambert, approached officers earlier this month about a significant amount missing from her checking account.
Lambert told officers her granddaughter took the checks while she was hospitalized, reports show, but had not repaid her.
Reese was taken into custody by Spencer Police about 9:30 p.m. Tuesday.
She was released from Rowan County jail after posting a $5,000 bond.
