A Faith man remains in jail today after repeatedly using racial slurs at an officer responding to Waffle House where the man had been banned. Stacey Grant Wright, 48, of the 100 block of Woodland Lane, was banned by the managers of the South Jake Alexander Boulevard restaurant.
The Salisbury Police charged Wright with ethnic intimidation, communicating threats, second-degree trespassing and resist, obstruct, delay an officer, all are misdemeanors.
The restaurant managers called the police about a disturbance involving Wright and informed officer W.O. Brown that Wright had been banned a couple of weeks ago and he was refusing to leave.
Wright was arrested and while in the patrol car, he tried to explain to the officer what happened. Officer Brown told Wright he’d have to explain it to a judge. Wright began using the N-word at the officer, who is African American.
A department report said Wright said Sammy Davis Jr. was a good (racial slur), but the officer was a bad (racial slur). After a few more miles, the officer turned Wright into the hands of other officers. Wright continued to be uncooperative and rude with the other officers.
Wright remains in the Rowan County Detention Center under a $5,000 secured bond.
