CHINA GROVE — A China Grove couple face charges after an argument became physical and sent one of them to the hospital on Wednesday.
Rowan County Sheriff’s officials said Jeffery Bernard Torrence, 49, and Denise Marie Young, 45, both of McCleave Road, argued shortly after 6 a.m. at their home.
Young was armed with a knife and will be charged with assault with a deadly weapon and contributing to the delinquency of a minor, both misdemeanors. Her 11-year-old son was also at the home during the fight.
Torrence faces one count of felony breaking and entering and one count of misdemeanor larceny, stemming from outstanding warrants from 2005 with the Mooresville Police Department.
Capt. John Sifford with the Sheriff’s Office said Young was taken to Carolinas Medical Center-NorthEast after she punched through a window at the home. Hospital officials had no record of Young.
Sifford said Torrence had superficial wounds from being cut with the knife and was treated at the scene by medical responders.
Torrence left the home with the child before law enforcement arrived, both were located later. The child was not harmed, Sifford said.
Crime Scene investigators were still at the home six hours later collecting evidence. The home sits at the end of McCleave Road in an area with a few vacant homes and mobile homes surrounding it.
Torrence remains in the Rowan County Detention Center under a $5,000 secured bond.
