North Rowan is ranked No. 1 in all three major 2A polls — Associated Press, Carolina Preps and NCPreps.
In the AP poll released on Tuesday, North received 11 of 13 first-place votes. East Lincoln and Franklinton got one first-place vote each.
In 3A, Concord is eighth and Central Cabarrus is 10th.
South Iredell, which plays Salisbury Friday, is sixth. West Rowan received votes.
• Receiver K.D. Cannon of Mount Pleasant, Texas, was honored as U.S. Army national player of the week. In a 77-34 victory, the Baylor commit caught nine passes for 271 yards and five TDs.
Northwest Cabarrus’ Gil Gilreath (17:03) and Maddie Lowe (21:07) were the individual winners in the South Piedmont Pre-Conference Meet held at the Central Cabarrus course on Tuesday.
East Rowan’s boys won the team competition with a score of 30. Carson and Hickory Ridge had scores of 69.
West Rowan was sixth at 136, and South Rowan was ninth at 261.
Top-10 Rowan finishers included East’s Conor Honeycutt (third, 17:20), Cal Meyers (fourth, 18:01), Josh Rowell (fifth, 18:10) and Chance Brown (eighth, 18:27); West’s Jordan Bostian (ninth, 18:40), and Carson’s Grant Doby (10th, 18:40).
East’s fifth scorer was Justin Allen (11th, 18:41).
Northwest won the girls team race with a score of 44. East (70) was second. West (99) was fifth. Carson (155) was seventh.
Top Rowan finishers included West’s Rebecca Parker (third, 21:21), East’s Faith Blume (seventh, 22:47), East’s Anna Louise Alexander (ninth, 22:50) and West’s Josie Heglar (10th, 22:59).
• In the jayvee race, East runners Jonathan Brindle (20:06), Robert Egloff (20:19) and Alex Burris (20:32) were 1-2-3 in the boys race. Carson’s Dylan Koontz (20:40) and Carver Walser (20:41) placed fourth and fifth.

Kayla Honeycutt, Anna Flynn, Madeline Hoskins, Kathryn Rusher, Grace Steinman and Kathleen Mowery won singles matches.
Honeycutt-Flynn, Rusher-Steinman and Hoskins-Ruth Clement won in doubles.
• East Rowan’s girls won 9-0 against Hickory Ridge in a CCC match on Monday to stay undefeated.
Singles winners for the Mustangs were Lizzie Weaver, Laura Agner, Rebecca Agner, Lauren Thomas, Taylor Trexler and Emma Ritchie.
Doubles winners were Weaver-Laura Agner, Rebecca Agner-Thomas and Trexler-Ritchie.
• Carson won 9-0 against West Rowan on Monday in SPC play.
Laura Isenhour, Sara Lentz, Addie Gantt, Erika Meadows, Kate Cole and Mackenzie Menius won the singles matches.
Isenhour-Lentz, Meadows-Cole and Gantt-Menius swept doubles.
Carson is at home against South Rowan today.
Salvador Sanchez scored on a penalty kick to lift East Rowan to a 1-0 win against West Rowan in SPC soccer on Tuesday.
• Carson’s soccer team lost 5-3 to Concord on Tuesday. Brandon Flores scored twice for the Cougars, with Colton Correll and Garrett Owens assisting. Logan Correll scored on a header off an assist by Flores.
• Carson’s jayvees lost 3-2 to the Spiders. Miguel Varela and Cole Howard scored for the Cougars.
• Salisbury won 3-1 against Monroe’s Central Academy of Technological Arts on Tuesday.
Clint Comadoll, Emmy Turcios and Michael Brown scored goals. Philip Simons and Bobby Cardelle had assists for the Hornets (9-1).
CATA competed without head coach Jay Niessner, who suffered a collapsed lung on Monday. Salisbury played without defensive captain John Canipe.
“There are a lot of very talented teams on the western side of the state,” Salisbury coach Matt Parrish said. “I believe CATA will have to be reckoned with by anyone who wants to play for a state championship. We made some real strides mentally tonight.”
Salisbury has played two tough matches in two nights and hosts East Davidson in a CCC contest tonight.
• In SPC contests on Tuesday, Central Cabarrus stayed unbeaten in the league with a 5-1 win against South Rowan, and Northwest Cabarrus won 3-1 against Hickory Ridge.
Cox Mill lost 1-0 to Cuthbertson outside the league.
• North Hills defeated Covenant Classical 2-0.
Leonard Murdock and Dallas Little field scored goals for the Eagles.
Carson won 25-10, 25-11 and 25-18 winner at Cox Mill to stay perfect on the season.
Carson is 15-0 and is 8-0 at the halfway point in the SPC race.
• Salisbury won 3-0 against Thomasville on Tuesday to move to 3-0 in the CCC.
Juliana Anderson had six aces. Nyasia Harris had six kills and six blocks. Emma Labovitz had five aces and 12 digs. Olivia Smith had five aces and 15 assists. Mary Seifert had 16 assists.
• Salisbury lost 2-1 to Thomasville in the jayvee match. Lainy Slate had five kills. Miyahka Farris had seven digs. Kate Murph had two aces and 17 assists.
• North Rowan beat East Davidson 3-2 in CCC play.
In West Rowan’s 3-0 win against North Rowan on Monday, Anna Messisco had six kills, eight assists and two aces. Ashley Wood had five assists and two aces. Jordan Kepley had three blocks. Hannah Moseley had four kills, and Katie Crider had three.
• South Rowan swept East Rowan on Tuesday and also won the jayvee match.
• The North Hills varsity won 25-16, 25-21 and 25-15 against defending conference champ Covenant Classical.
• The North Hills jayvees won 25-9 and 25-7 against Covenant Classical.
Twenty-nine youths participated in the Salisbury Parks & Recreation local Punt, Pass & Kick competition.
Girls and boys competed separately.
Winners were James Linder and Sari Lewin (6-7 age group), Drew Young and Maris Wainright (8-9 age group), Quinton O’Hara and Mallory Link (10-11 age group), Blake Clark (12-13 age group) and Reginald Oglesby and Darian Abernathy (14-15 age group).
First-place winners advance to sectionals at American Legion Memorial Stadium in Charlotte on Oct. 27 with a chance to compete at a Carolina Panther football game in December.
Second-place finishers were Curtis Walker II, Emmalyn Sides, Bennett Clark, Charlie Klingler, Morgan Jeter, Mitch Jeter and Marshall Long.
Third-place finishers were Will Klingler, Connor Heanie, Jordan Goodine, Andrew Bradshaw and Lee Poteat.

Catawba’s Tyler Rutherford was medalist in the Full Moon BBQ Invitational. Rutherford shot 72-66 — 138 and led Catawba to a fifth-place finish.
UNC Pembroke (2-0) is ranked 17th in the new D-II poll. Carson-Newman (2-0) is 12th. Winston-Salem State is 19th.
Aime Cloninger (Carson) had 14 kills as Catawba Valley Community College stayed undefeated with a sweep of the Montreat jayvees on Tuesday.
The Kannapolis-based Carolina Thundering Herd (8-0) won 42-16 on Saturday against the High Point Ravens to stay undefeated.
Sacred Heart won 9-1 against Statesville Christian.
Michael Childress had four goals. Will Taylor and Eric Turnbull scored two each, and William Austin had one goal.
West Rowan Middle defeated Southeast 7-4 on Tuesday. Hannah Roberts struck out six for the Bulldogs. Parker Greene, Victoria Moore, Morgan Corriher, Timber Hedrick, Katie Williams, Faith Moore and Hannah Pratt had hits for the Bulldogs.
Erwin’s girls beat Mooresville 6-3.
Singles winners for the Eagles were Haley Loflin, Angel Scialdone and Lauren Weisensel.
Doubles winners were Loflin, Scialdone, Mia Graham Weisensel, Destini Hamilton and Kristen Brady.
• Knox’s girls won 9-0 against Corriher-Lipe.
Singles winners were Bethanie Stauffer, Rachel Seifert, Skye Mowery, Maleah Corpening, Saleema Sabadaka and Lindsay Jones.
Doubles winners were Seifert-Mowery, Stauffer-Corpening and Sabakada-Jones.
• The McCanless Couples played with a Captain’s Choice format.
Winning team members were Don Goodnight, Harry Owens and Ricky and Treva Honeycutt.
The second-place team was Glen Trexler, Frank Foster and Mary and Gene Seaford. Owens won longest putt, while Ricky Honeycut won closest to the pin.
• Phyllis Durland won gross in Corbin Hills Women’s Golf Association play on Tuesday.
Kristi Laton was second, with Susan Morris third.
Sheyrl Johnson won the net category. Mary Seaford was second, with Betsey Edgeworth third.
