Online supporters of Erica Parsons, a Salisbury teen who has been missing for nearly two years, have taken up the cause left by the girl’s biological mother and established an online event this morning.
Erica, 15, was reported missing by her adoptive brother, James Parsons, two months ago. Erica has not been seen since November 2011.
But the teens’ adoptive parents, Sandy and Casey Parsons, have said they allowed Erica to live with her paternal biological grandmother, Irene Goodman.
The Parsonses have said they lost contact with Goodman, whom they knew as Nan, sometime ago. Goodman was said to have lived in Asheville.
Rowan Sheriff’s officials have found no evidence to suggest Goodman exists. Investigators have said Sandy and Casey Parsons have been uncooperative. The couple’s attorney, Carlyle Sherrill, has said they’ve provided law enforcement with the only information they knew. The couple have not been charged with a crime.
The girl’s biological mother, Carolyn Parsons, created an event via social networking site, Facebook, with the intent of having a rally this morning.
Carolyn was unable to have the event because she did not apply for a permit in time, Salisbury Police officials said Friday.
Anyone who has a gathering of two or more people must have a permit from the city, three business days before the planned event, officials said.
A group of online supporters created a Facebook event page asking people to show support by saying they are “attending” the online event. The event had 143 supporters who’ve clicked on the event as of noon.
Carolyn Parsons told a Post reporter on Friday she was leaving Rowan County and returning home to Louisiana.
