East Rowan High School was evacuated because of a bomb threat this morning.
A phone message to parents from Rowan-Salisbury Schools Spokeswoman Rita Foil said staff and students gathered in the stadium after the threat was received. School officials worked with local law enforcement and emergency officials before sending students back to class.
According to Rowan County Sheriff’s officials, a dog trained to search for explosives was on hand, along with law enforcement and fire officials. No explosive was found.
The school was evacuated within 10 minutes.
“It is certainly under investigation, but there have been no charges made,” said Rowan Sheriff’s Capt. John Sifford. Officials are in the early stages of their investigation.
