A former law enforcement officer and his wife were charged Thursday with resisting police while officers were serving a search warrant on their Granite Quarry home.
Brian Kiever, 50, of the 1300 block of Stonewyck Drive, was charged with misdemeanor resist, obstruct, delay an officer, and his wife, Kathleen Kiever, 45, was charged with resist, obstruct, delay an officer and assault on a law enforcement officer; both are misdemeanors.
Brian Kiever is a former federal agent with the Department of Homeland Security. He’s also worked as an officer with the China Grove Police Department and as a Rowan County Sheriff’s deputy.
Officers with the Granite Quarry-Faith Police Authority were serving the warrant at the Granite Quarry home Thursday at 10 p.m. where officers searched the home, the couple’s son, Peter Kiever, 18, and vehicles parked at the home.
Police Chief Mark Cook confirmed his department was searching the home to secure evidence related to an ongoing investigation. During the search, Peter Kiever voluntarily spoke with Detective Todd Taylor from inside his vehicle.
The teenager’s father, Brian, disrupted the interview. He was subsequently told to step away from the vehicle, but did not immediately do so. He was placed under arrest.
While officers arrested Brian Kiever, his wife, Kathleen, became disruptive and was warned she’d be arrested also.
Kathleen Kiever ran from officers into her house, slamming the door on Officer Matt Milette’s arm.
Cook said the officer’s arm was not broken, but he did receive “significant injuries.”
The couple were taken to Rowan County Detention Center where Brian Kiever was issued a $500 secured bond and Kathleen was issued a $1,000 secured bond. Both have since been released from the jail.
Cook said because of the nature of the investigation and other legal matters he could not comment further.
A search warrant says officials are investigating Peter Kiever regarding possible inappropriate relationships with an underage girl. Peter Kiever has not been charged.
