CHINA GROVE — A local farming family will host their second annual corn maze event this week with proceeds dedicated to helping locate missing teen Erica Parsons.
The Miller family will host their Maze of Terror event Friday and Saturday at 2198 Miller Road, China Grove, home to Miller’s Produce. The event begins at 7:30 p.m.
Spokeswoman Stephanie Coughenour said family members have followed the story of Erica’s disappearance and wanted to donate the money toward the reward for the 15 year old’s safe return.
Erica hasn’t been seen in Rowan County since November 2011, but was reported missing by her adoptive brother, James, in July. The teen’s adoptive parents Sandy and Casey Parsons, have said they let her live with a woman they knew as her biological grandmother, Irene Goodman, whom law enforcement say does not exist.
In August, the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office offered a $10,000 reward that leads to Erica’s location and her return. Talk show host Dr. Phil McGraw also offered a $5,000 reward.
Coughenour said the case has touched the community, including those living on Miller Road, which is less than six miles from the Parsonses’ former Miller Chapel Road home where Erica once lived.
The corn maze will continue the following Friday and Saturday, Oct. 25 and Oct. 26 beginning at 7:30 p.m.
The proceeds from that weekend’s sale will benefit the domestic violence shelter. The Family Crisis Council of Rowan County operates an emergency shelter for victims of domestic violence and their children. October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
