The monthly prayer breakfast of the men of the Tower of Power United Holy Church, 601 E. Cemetery St., is at 8 a.m. today with guest speaker the Rev. Paul Jones Sr., former pastor of New Zion Baptist Church in Granite Quarry.
Outreach Christian Ministries Int’l, 722 W. Horah St., is hosting its annual Youth Explosion, concluding with a Sunday youth service.
All youth are invited to join workshops beginning at 11 a.m. today. The theme is “Finish Strong: Stay Your Course.”
Fairview Baptist Church’s youth event is at 5 p.m. today at 704 Old Concord Road. It will include with song, praise, dance and mime.

The board of Deacons of Rowan Christian Assembly, U.S. 52 Granite Quarry, announces the appointment of the Rev. David L. Norris as interim pastor following the retirement of pastors the Rev. and Mrs. Glynn Dickens, who pastored the church for 21 years.
Norris and his wife Peggy formerly pastored Way of Life Assembly of God in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. for 15 years prior to their retirement to Salisbury. He will begin his ministry during the 10:30 a.m. service Sunday.
Henderson Grove Missionary Baptist Church will celebrate its 201st church anniversary Sunday.
The congregation was organized in 1812. The 11 a.m. service will be conducted by the Rev. Perry Dye, pastor of Henderson Grove.
Dinner will be served at 1:30 p.m. Guest speaker for the 3 p.m. service will be Elder Richard Johnson, pastor of Hall’s Chapel Primitive Baptist Church in Salisbury.
First Calvary Baptist Church will observe Woman’s Day during the 11 a.m. service Sunday.
Evangelist Alease Hunt Taylor of Outreach Christian Tabernacle will speak, with music by the adult choir, directed by Minister of Music Winnell Short. A new Miss/Mrs. First Calvary will be crowned.
Evangelist Taylor co-founder and Elect Lady of Outreach Christian Tabernacle for 48 years, works with the youth department and Sunday School.
MOCKSVILLE — A representative from Blue Cross Blue Shield and will speak on the Affordable Care Act during the 11 a.m. service Sunday at Bethel Baptist Church, 3727 U.S. 601 S. A question and answer session will proceed the talk. The public is invited and dress is casual.
First United Church of Christ, 207 W. Horah St., will distribute monetary gifts from the First UCC Foundation during the 11 a.m. service Sunday.
The First UCC Endowment Fund was established in 1997 with an initial gift by the Ed Alcorn family and has provided a method of perpetual giving to non-profit organizations that represent the mission and ministry of the church. A reception honoring the recipients will be held in the fellowship hall following the worship service.

SPENCER — The movie “Home Run” will be shown at 6:30 p.m. Sunday at Oakdale Baptist Church, 200 Charles St.
It is the story of a professional baseball player who struggles with substance abuse and over comes it with the help of the Lord, offering hope and help for people struggling with addictions.
The movie is rated PG-13. A movie for younger children will be shown in another room at the same time.
Sacred Heart Catholic Daughters will present its 43rd annual Louisiana Turkey Gumbo fundraiser from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday at the church, 385 Lumen Christi Lane.
The meal includes gumbo, rice, salad, punch bowl cake, drink and roll for $8, eat in or take out, free delivery on 10 or more.
In addition, Sacred Heart cash raffle drawings will be held at 6:15 p.m. that day.
