SALISBURY — A China Grove man was arrested Sunday after being charged with allowing an 11-year-old to drive his Hummer on a public street, with two other children inside.
Delphin Juan Sherrill, of Flat Rock Road, was charged with three counts of misdemeanor child abuse, allowing an unlicensed minor to drive and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
According to police reports, Sherrill is charged with allowing an 11-year-old to drive a 2005 Hummer.
The contributing to delinquency charge stemmed from an allegation that Sherrill did “encourage and cause” the child not to stop for law enforcement “upon activation of blue lights and siren,” according to the arrest report.
Sherrill was being held in the Rowan County Detention Center under $25,000 bond Sunday night.
He is scheduled to appear in District Court on Jan. 17.
