It appears that few voters felt the same about voting as Terry Burris and his wife Caroline.
The couple arrived to vote for the Landis town board in the early afternoon, Terry said, because he felt it was their duty.
The two chatted with incumbents Dennis Brown and Craig Sloop, along with challengers Dorland Abernathy and Tony Corriher, who has previously served, after casting their ballots.
“Hopefully there are changes,” Caroline said.
The turnout wasn’t much different for the China Grove town board where incumbents Mike Upright, Brandon Linn and Charles Seaford spent much of the day along with challenger Barbara Doby, who is looking to make a return to the board. Butch Bivens, who has also previously served, is also looking to fill a seat on the board.
At both polling places, the China Grove Community Building on South Myrtle Avenue and the Landis precinct at the South Rowan Library, there were very few voters.
Pat Tyson was one of those who voted at the community building. Tyson said she wants someone who wants to improve the town.
She didn’t want to specifically name everyone she voted for, but did say she voted for incumbent Charles Seaford saying “he’s done a good job. He’s a fine person.”
Harry Mills said he likes the youth and enthusiasm of current board member Brandon Linn.
“We need new people with good ideas,” Mills said.
He said there needs to be someone who will stand up for people instead of doing what they want.
“It’s time then got back to the roots of listening to the community,” he said.
The polling sites close at 7:30 p.m.
