FAITH — When she cast her votes today for town board, Sue Teague was looking for candidates who could strike a balance.
Teague said she’s in favor of keeping the small town “basically the way it is,” but would like to see some new business.
And she wants improvements coupled with fiscal caution.
“We need work on the sidewalks, but we do need to keep taxes down because of the economy,” she said.
The Board of Aldermen that makes those decisions will have some new members when today’s voting ends. In faith, all five seats are up for election every two years, and this year only three incumbents are seeking a return.
The candidates include incumbents Keith Deal, Gary Gardner and Todd Peeler along with challengers Brian Campbell, Michael Hibler, Matt Lyerly and C.J. Moody.
The mayor is appointed from among the board members. Peeler currently holds that office.
Teague and her husband Gary were among the 82 voters who had cast ballots in Faith by about 1 p.m. today. A lifelong resident, Teague said she thinks it’s good that the board will have some new blood.
“There’s always things that someone else sees from the outside, new ideas they have,” she said.
Still, she said, “There’s several on there that I would definitely want to stay on, because I think they’ve done an excellent job.”
Her husband Gary agreed.
“The town’s being run very effectively, I think,” he said.
