Investigators with the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office continue their efforts to determine who killed an elderly Richfield man and assaulted his daughter outside their River Road home.
A family member discovered the body of J.D. Furr, 87, outside his home. His daughter, Sandra Steen, 62, was found lying in the driveway.
The two live in a remote area off Stokes Ferry Road, with few close neighbors.
“Investigators worked into the night collecting evidence and making contact with persons who may be able to provide information about this crime,” Sheriff’s Capt. John Sifford said in a press release.
Steen, who suffered significant injuries, remains hospitalized. She’s been placed in a hospital in this region and is in the intensive care unit. She has improved, the statement said, but will require time to recover from her injuries.
No details have been released about how Furr was killed. Investigators did say there was an apparent robbery with some items taken from the property, but have not specified the items.
Anyone with information regarding the investigation is asked to contact Lt. Chad Moose at 704-216-8687 or Sgt. Jason Owens at 704-216-8683.
