A New Jersey woman was charged with drug possession after being pulled over with her children in the car Saturday.
Moneta Michelle Hicks, 24, of Sharradon Street, Camdon, was pulled over during a traffic stop at West Jake Alexander and Statesville boulevards.
A Salisbury Police officer checked her license plate, and it listed a different model vehicle. But that was a mistake with the division of motor vehicles, a report said.
When asked for identification, Hicks gave the officer the name Danielle Thomas. According to the N.C. Department of Correction Hicks is also known as Ebony Alexis Lynch.
The officer smelled a strong odor of marijuana coming from the car, the report said. Hicks had an infant and toddler sitting in the back seat.
Hicks pulled out a plastic bag of marijuana from her pocket, but said it didn’t belong to her. A male passenger was not in possession of any drugs. He took the children to a local fast food restaurant to wait for his mother.
Hicks had 12.8 grams of marijuana and one gram of methadone, the report said.
Hicks was charged with misdemeanor resist, obstruct, delay an officer after she failed to provide correct information, misdemeanor possession of a controlled substance and felony possession of a controlled substance. She also had warrants stemming from a February 2012 incident for drug possession and resisting arrest in Rowan County and simple possession of marijuana and resisting arrest in Cabarrus County. She also had arrest warrants for a 2011 misdemeanor larceny incident in Cabarrus County and a misdemeanor parole violation.
Hicks was released from the Rowan County Detention Center after posting a $20,575 secured bond.
