STATESVILLE — Horizon Church will host its inaugural Significant Praise, an indoor Christian music festival featuring music, dance and special guest speakers from 1 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Dec.7.
There will be a kids area, food and craft vendors. Santa Clause will make a pre-Christmas appearance.
This community outreach event, fundraiser and toy drive will be held at Horizon Church, 316 Signal Hill Drive.
Admission is $5, or free with a new, unwrapped toy donation.
The Carolina Catholic Chorale will sing its first Mass, “Feast of the Immaculate Conception,” at 4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 8 at Sacred Heart Church.
This will be a Latin Mass in the extraordinary form, the ordinary being the “Missa Brevis in D major” of Mozart for chamber choir and orchestra.
The Gregorian chants of the day will be sung as well as Mozart’s beloved motet: “Ave Verum Corpus.”
The church hopes this will be the first of a growing number of such beautiful “orchestral” Masses with the next one sung during Eastertide 2014.
Founded in 2013 and serving the diocese of the Charlotte and its immediate area, The Carolina Catholic Chorale is dedicated to performing music chiefly of the Roman Catholic tradition in primarily liturgical settings.
Although the choir welcomes all lovers of sacred music, it enjoys a special mission to Catholic musicians in acquainting them with the great, ongoing choral and instrumental tradition that is their heritage.

Ashleigh’s Angels will host a Gospel Singing and Chicken ‘n Dumplings from 2 to 8 p.m. Saturday Dec. 14 at Southside Baptist Church, 500 Morlan Park Road/
Ashleigh’s Angels raises money to help parents of kids going through brain cancer, in memory of 3-year-old Ashleigh Jade Higgins.
Dinner will be served from 2 to 7 p.m.
The Dosses, The Gospelairs, The Enlighteners will perform from 4 to 8 p.m.
The cost is $5 for children ages 4-12 and $8 for adults. Children ages 3 and younger will be admitted free. Carryout is $7.
Remnant in Christ Outreach will host a One Warm Coat event at 627 Newsome Road on Saturday, Dec. 21.
The church is accepting coats and will continue to collect up until the day before. The goal is to distribute a minimum of 100 coats.
In addition, the church will prepare a chili lunch with bread and drinks.
The current drop-off location for coats is at A Step Into Excellence Boutique, 1008 S. Main St. in Salisbury.
Also accepted: hats, gloves, scarves, socks, sweatshirts, and anything to contribute to sharing the warmth to someone in need.
The church would also like to enlist volunteer church ensembles or soloists to sing during the event.
