Authorities say a woman stole checks and a credit card from her ex-boyfriend and went on a monthlong spending spree, racking up $500 in charges on food and gasoline.
The Rowan County Sheriff’s Office charged Brittany Michelle Lucas Morris, 25, with felony financial transaction card theft, misdemeanor larceny, felony uttering a forged instrument, felony forgery, felony financial card fraud and misdemeanor probation violation.
Authorities say she made at least 61 transactions using former boyfriend Daniel Tucker’s credit card and checks from Oct. 3 to Nov. 10. She made multiple purchases at a Granite Quarry convenience store.
Morris, of the 1300 block of Arbor Drive, has been released under a $6,000 secured bond.
An investigator who met with Morris reported that she admitted to breaking into Tucker’s truck and his home, where she took his MasterCard credit card and checks. She told authorities she went into his home three times, which is where she found his credit card, and intended to pay the money back “when she had made enough money,” a report said.
Morris was convicted in 2011 with misdemeanor larceny. She has a pending case stemming from a 2011 incident where she was charged with felony larceny and probation violation.
