LINCOLNTON (AP) — Authorities say a Lincolnton man was injured when a homemade black powder cannon exploded in his face.
Deputies went to a home at around 1:15 a.m. Wednesday and found Timothy Crouse Hester, 41, lying against a door with serious head injuries.
A woman told officers that she heard a loud explosion, then saw Hester fly across the porch.
Hester had been shooting the canon during the night to celebrate the new year.
Hester was taken to the hospital for eye injuries and burns on his face. Authorities are still investigating.
