LANDIS — Owners of a North Main Street property will have to offer the place for sale without a desired zoning after the town board denied the rezoning request during its Monday meeting.

The property, located at 319 N. Main St., is currently zoned single-family residential and the owners asked the board to consider a change to office institutional.

“The board wanted to be specific about what could go in there,” said Town Manager Reed Linn.

Linn said the board denied the zoning request because it considered the change to be too much like spot zoning, something the board didn’t want to happen. The office institutional zoning is used primarily as a transition zoning going from residential into a business district, Linn said.

If approved, the property would not be adjacent to any other business district and the board didn’t want to establish any kind of spot zoning, he said.

The board was first brought this request during its December meeting.

The board also:

• Received and approved a proclamation declaring February as Black History Month and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

• Approved to change its September meeting date from Sept. 1, which is Labor Day to the following Monday on Sept. 8.
