A Kannapolis man was arrested Saturday on charges that he stole merchandise from the Dillard’s department store company over the course of several days in December.
Derrick J. Millen, 29, of Buena Street, is charged with nine counts of larceny by employee.
According to arrest reports, Millen was acting as an employee of Dillard’s through Corestaff temporary staffing services of Concord when he allegedly did “do away with, embezzle and convert to (his) own use merchandise, jewelry, watches, sunglasses, (and) pocketbooks.”
The alleged thefts took place between Dec. 13 and Dec. 26, according to arrest warrants. The reports did not specify particular items, or a dollar value.
The Post reported Wednesday that Rowan County Sheriff’s investigators were looking into reports of merchandise stolen from the Dillard’s warehouse on Peach Orchard Road.
Officials said they believed temporary employees had stolen items from boxes that were ready to be shipped to stores.
Millen was released on $2,500 bond from the Rowan County Detention Center.
His first appearance in court is set for Monday morning.
