Authorities are looking for a Salisbury man they say punched his father so violently his cheekbone was fractured after a Monday night incident on West Bank Street.
Salisbury Police say anyone with information as to the whereabouts of Dwayne Melvin Coward, 30, is asked to contact law enforcement. Officers were called to Novant Health Rowan Medical Center Monday night where they found Melvin Lee Coward, 55, of Spencer, there. His eyes were swollen shut and doctors said he had scratched corneas.
Melvin Coward said he was at his son’s home when Dwayne Coward repeatedly punched him. Police believe Dwayne Coward was intoxicated. His father left the West Bank Street home, called his daughter and asked her to meet him at Bank of America on West Innes Street. Coward’s daughter took him home, but later he went to the hospital complaining of a headache and pain in his face.
Coward was convicted in May 2012 of misdemeanor assault and battery.
Anyone with information about Dwayne Melvin Coward’s whereabouts is asked to contact the Salisbury Police at 704-638-5333 or Crime Stoppers at 1-866-639-5245.
