ROCKWELL—Immanuel Lutheran will host the East Rowan High School Honors Chorus in concert Sunday during the 11 a.m. service.
Immanuel members Jordan Owen and Taylor Trexler are members of the ensemble.
Following the service, the Honors Chorus and family members will be treated to a luncheon prepared by the congregation.
The East Rowan Honors Chorus is an auditioned group of 57 students, under the direction of Dean Orbison, and has amassed numerous awards under his leadership.
The chorus has performed at Carnegie Hall in New York City; Lakeland Performing Arts Center in Florida; and the Greater Virginia Performing Arts Center at Virginia Beach.
The chorus consistently receives superior ratings at state festivals in the highest level of music competition and was named Grand Champion Choir in national festivals in Florida, Virginia, South Carolina and North Carolina.

CLEVELAND — In observance of Black History Month, Cedar Grove AME Zion Church will acknowledge the accomplishments of their college graduates on Sunday during the 11 a.m. service.
Speaking will be the Rev. Gwendolyn Hampton, a former member of Cedar Grove and former pastor of St. John AME Zion Church in Mocksville. Hampton served as a residential hall director and assistant director of the Bridge Program, the president’s initiative for at-risk students at Livingstone College. She recently relocated to Jackson, Miss., where she opened a Community Center that mentors at-risk young black men between the ages of 13-19.

Inman was ordained by the Rowan Missionary Association in July 2004 and currently serves as the president of the Women’s Baptist Home and Foreign Missionary Convention of NC. She has worked with the organization for more than 39 years in the Youth, Young Adult and Senior departments.

Word of Life Family Worship Center, 726 East Liberty St., will host their 21st annual Black History Program on Sunday at 3 p.m. on the theme of “Celebrating Black History — Past, Present and Future.”
There will be special music and readings commemorating great African American achievers.
Guest speaker will be Ms. Ladsine Taylor, a certified gerontological nurse practitioner. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree in nursing from Atlantic Christian College in Wilson and her Master of Science degree in nursing with a specialty in geriatrics, and nurse practitioner from UNC-Greensboro.
She has been employed at the Hefner VA Medical Center for 20 years and also has experience in the areas of cardiothoracic surgery, neurology/neurosurgery, urology, psychiatric nursing, and community volunteerism at Duke Medical Center, and UNC Chapel Hill.
Locally, she is an active member of First Calvary Baptist Church in Salisbury.
The proceeds received during the service will be used toward the Word of Life Scholarship Program.

Henderson Grove Missionary Baptist Church will present a Black History Month program on Sunday at 3 p.m., featuring an original play “You Can’t Judge a Book By Its Cover,” by Brenda Rice McNeely.

GRANITE QUARRY — This Sunday, Feb. 23 at 3 p.m., White Rock AME Zion Church, 785 White Rock Ave., will celebrate Black History Month by honoring some of the members of the church, including Brenda Alston and the Kitchen Committee.
Brenda Alston is the pastor’s administrative assistant, a job she has held for more than 15 years under the tenure of numerous pastors.
She earned her B.A. degree from Livingstone College and her Masters of Education degree from UNC-Charlotte.
She is retired from the Rowan-Salisbury School System, where she was a special education teacher, program compliance specialist, lead support teacher and interim Exceptional Children’s director.
She was recognized twice as Teacher of the Year at Knollwood Elementary and once as the ARC Rowan Educator of the year.
Also honored will be the Kitchen Committee, 10 industrious people who make sure that the food is prepared for the various events and celebrations of the church.

SPENCER — The Faith Community Health Ministry of Spencer Presbyterian Church will offer lunch and a presentation “About Your Heart” on Monday, Feb. 24 at 12:15 p.m. in the education building, open to all.
