A Matter of Life and Death

Where we go to church is a matter of life and death. How many times have I heard my Pastor say that? I saw this in a new light today while listening to Joyce Meyer. She made the comment that the church should not be a place full of broken down, pitiful, barely getting by Christians. Yes we may be this way when we first come into the church, but we should not remain this way. My thought was this. If you went to the hospital for emergency care or for care for an illness, you would not continue to stay there if you were not getting any better, if there was nothing to indicate that the treatment you were getting was doing anything for you, would you? Well then why would we stay in a church that was not doing anything for us?
How do we know if our church is doing us any good? Ask yourself this. Are you growing? Are you maturing in the word? Has your life changed for the better? And most importantly and foremost, what are you doing to help your situation? Are you taking your medicine the way best suited for you? In other words are you getting into the word daily? You see we can’t blame the church totally if we are not doing our part. If we are not seeking Him first each day for everything in our lives, and letting the Holy Spirit guide us by keeping His word in our hearts, on our minds, before our eyes, then we can’t blame someone else for our illnesses. In other words the doctor can’t make your heart problems or your diabetes better if you continue to visit the donut shop every day and eat all of that sugar. Hello! We do have a say in our health as well, spiritually and physically.
So now we are doing all of these things we are seeking Him and asking the Holy Spirit to guide us and now look around, is your church growing, are the people thriving, do they walk about with good attitudes giving God the praise and the glory, thanking God in all things, are they prosperous, first look at your leader, if your leader is not thriving then neither will the church.
Those who think they have to be poor to be a good Christian is in wrong thinking. Jesus said that He became poor so that we might become rich….notice the word might! 2 Cor 8 v 9 NKJ. Do you have hearing ears and seeing eyes. Do you ask for Godly wisdom each day, for The Lord to give you a hearing heart? Prov 4 v7..Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom. And in all your getting, get understanding…. Wisdom is a hearing heart, a heart that understands what The Lord is saying in His Word to you. Prov 4 v 22…for they are life to those who find them, and health to all their flesh…This is talking about God’s words.Prov 9 v 10-11 talks about how fear of The Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and KNOWLEDGE of the Holy One is understanding… We can’t have knowledge of anything without first learning. We can’t have a relationship and really KNOW someone without first spending time with them.
Where do you go for your health and life instructions? Who do you turn to for understanding on how to better your life and health? I would hope and pray it is not just some TV doctor but to the greatest Physician of all times. The Lord Jesus.
Remember it is a matter of life and death where we go to church. But it is also our responsibility to get understanding and to take care of our bodies. AMEN!
Where can we find this Wisdom and this understanding that surpasses all understanding?
STAY IN HIS WORD!
