When destiny sets its course there is nothing you can do but follow it. As the happy couple pursued healthcare careers, they never dreamed they were following a path to each other. On March 1, 1964, while seniors in Medical School and Nursing School in Winston-Salem, Wayne Carson Koontz from Welcome married Claudia Ann Sellers in her hometown of Rocky Mount. Rev. William Thompson officiated their ceremony at Second Presbyterian Church.
Fifty loving years later they have been blessed with three children: Melanie Koontz Miller, Laura Koontz Peltz (Kevin) and David Wayne Koontz (Brandi). They have five grandchildren who they love to dote upon and spoil: Luke Lundy, Madison Koontz, Nicholas Peltz, Brennan Koontz and Riley Peltz.
Their marriage has taken them from North Carolina to Dallas, Texas, and back as they continue their journey together. They leave a legacy of loyalty, devotion and respect for their children and grandchildren to follow. After 49 years, Dr. Koontz continues to practice medicine at Salisbury Pediatrics, while his lovely bride has retired from the nursing field to care for their home and family.
The couple celebrated this momentous event with an intimate dinner including their children and grandchildren at their favorite restaurant, Pinocchio’s in Spencer, and will later take a relaxing vacation together.
Congratulations Mom and Dad — we wish you 50 more happy years together!
