Meanwhile, Meals on Wheels of Rowan has received $5,000 from the Food Lion Charitable Foundation to help feed those in need. Meals on Wheels will use the gift to cover the cost of hot, nutritious, noon meals delivered to the home-bound of Rowan County.
“We are thrilled to receive this grant. There is an unprecedented need for this service. Each day, more than 200 meals are delivered throughout Rowan County. Many clients are financially unable to pay the full amount or any portion of the meal cost due to limited income. This grant helps us continue to serve the home-bound of Rowan County,” said Rita Sims, executive director.
Meals on Wheels is a non-profit, community- based, Rowan County United Way Agency committed to providing a hot, nutritiously well- balanced home- delivered noon meal, along with a personal visit each weekday to area home-bound residents. This service allows them to remain independent and in their own homes where they are most comfortable.
